During my recent trip to India, I visited Fort Barwara, a beautifully restored heritage hotel. What stood out most wasn’t just the architecture or luxury—it was a small gift shop selling handcrafted goods made by local village women. This initiative provided them with income and a connection to hospitality.

This experience raised an important question: How can our hihotels properties build similar local connections in ways that make sense for their communities?

The Business of Belonging
A hotel is more than a place to stay—it’s part of the community. Guests don’t just experience a brand; they experience the people and businesses around them. Strong community ties foster goodwill, guest loyalty, and a positive reputation.

Small Actions, Big Impact
While a hotel gift shop may not fit our model, there are many ways to engage locally:
Sponsor a Local Team – Support youth or school teams and showcase their achievements in the lobby.
Provide Rooms for First Responders – Offer discounted or emergency stays for those serving the community.
Feature Local Art & Businesses – Highlight artists or small businesses in the lobby for a localized guest experience.
Host Community Events – Open spaces for meetings, networking, or small business workshops.

Building a Culture of Connection
Community involvement doesn’t have to be big to make a difference. Even small efforts can strengthen relationships, enhance guest experiences, and elevate our brand. Fort Barwara reminded me that true hospitality extends beyond hotel walls—it’s about the lives we touch and the connections we build.

How is your hotel giving back? I’d love to hear about the initiatives making an impact in your community.
